If the Rays opt to sell at the Deadline, I imagine Yandy Diaz will be one of the players they look to move. He's getting old, they are playing him at DH more and more to keep him healthy, and he makes "big bucks" by the Rays standards. The three playoff-race teams with arguably the biggest needs for 1B/DH are the Padres (Team Stats: 88 wRC+ at 1B; 93 wRC+ at DH), Astros (Team Stats: 85 wRC+ at 1B; 92 wRC+ at DH) and Giants (Team Stats: 87 wRC+ at 1B; 98 wRC+ at DH). Yandy is hitting 120 wRC+ overall this year while producing 1.5 fWAR, and that's after another slow start to the year that is holding down his season long stats. He's hitting 133 wRC+ since May 1st and 164 wRC+ since June 1st. His splits are minimal (96 wRC+ against LHP; 129 wRC+ against RHP), making him a true everyday player. He would be a huge addition for any of these teams, which is why there is a minor overpay here. In this trade, the Giants give up a good outfield prospect in Davidson. As a 22-23 year old in the low minors, he is having a lot of success (148 wRC+ with just a 22.1% K rate), but that performance is being artificially inflated by a high BABIP (.385). AA will probably be a stiff test for him. Still, he's a good prospect to get for Yandy.
