This would be my max, and I'm not sure I would do it if I was the Rays. It would be hard for Ben Cherington to turn this down. I'd hate to see Simpson go, as I think he will win batting titles and stolen base crowns. He's a poor defender with no power though. Cruz has power and is an excellent defender, and is nearly as fast. Isaac is struggling to stay healthy. A platoon DH is likely, although he might be a hell of a hitter one day. But Cruz might be too... There's only about 15 players in the world capable of winning the MVP next year over a healthy Ohtani and a healthy Judge. Cruz is one of them. His upside is just too much for this Rays fan to pass up.

Dude - Whatever you're on, you've had enough. One of 15 players capable of winning the MVP??? With a league average bat and playing slightly above average defense (2 OAA this year) or maybe pretty awful defense (-6 DRS this year)? I have no interest in trading for Cruz at this valuation. I have no interest in trading C.Simpson either. This trade is a hard pass for me (and I think the Rays). Simpson has improved his defense considerably this year and he might be a lot better next year. Cruz is on pace for about 3 fWAR this year and I think Simpson can better that as early as next year.
