No thanks. Down vote for the A's. Do you think the Phillies promoted Tait to showcase him at the trade deadline? And Mendez is an interesting guy that I'll be looking deeper into. And would Wen-Hui Pan be available for one of Newcomb/Andujar?

Escobar and Tait are the youngest of the top 100 prospects the Phillies have, which I would imagine they’d be willing to part with first. I think that has to be part of the motivation because now you’re risking Tait lowering his value with a poor performance at the next level - even though it was well-deserved. Mendez is being talked up like previous trade chips and is one of the few bats that’s having a very solid season. As for Pan, he is still recovery from arm surgery I believe. If the A’s want him, I know the Phillies would move him otherwise.

I'm just not a fan of Escobar. Or Abel, honestly. Who would be the priority, Andujar or Newcomb (for Pan).

I think Abel has turned the corner in his development and would prefer to not move him. Is going to end up mid to back end of the rotation instead of potentially a #2, though. Can you offer why you’re not high on Escobar? Between Andujar and Newcomb, I think it’s a toss up. The Phillies need to move Kepler to make Andujar more viable but they just signed Robertson and will get Alvarado back for the last 6 weeks of the season, so Newcomb would probably be a luxury in their eyes.

Well, I'd be comfortable flipping either rental for him. As for Escobar... he's a maxed out 2B prospect without any standout tools. The profile isn't worth the price tag when you can find serviceable 2B in FA on the cheap.

Fair enough. But like I said, these are the prospects the Phillies would feel most comfortable offering. They’d be willing to sacrifice a Miller and/or Crawford if they could get a bat like Rooker but he doesn’t fit their lineup right now and is definitely not someone the A’s would want to trade.

I think Escobar is the most available of the Phillies' high end prospects. With Realmuto at the end of his contract, I'm not sure Tait will be that available. I appreciated the discussion.

Agreed, Escobar is likely the first to go and they will hold onto Tait as much as possible. Great convo!
