3Now for the Blockbuster. Sonny wants to stay near his home in Nashville & Atlanta needs a #2 starter for this year & the next 2. The Cards pay down Grey's salary so the Braves have a $20m AAV thru '27. The Cards get more minor league pitching value and their rotational depth looks good for '26 & beyond.
Excellent idea to “purchase” future pitching by paying down Sonny’s contract. I like it a lot. My thoughts: add another $5 M to the payout. Stl will be paying Grays salary in a non competitive year if he stays right ? Braves have a lot of solid pitchers to pick through. It is clear that Ritchey (5.8) is closest to MLB, so he stays. Hursten Waldrep can provide value immediately…. May get great value if you swap out Murphy for Brock Burkholder, Cade Kuehler and Luke Sinnard. All three of those are better than what cards have at double A currently. Personally, I’d try to find a way to use Gray + cash to get to Sean Murphy and two pitchers. RH power hitting catcher who is 40 pts better than Pages helps the cards win more games the next 3 years

In my world, Contreras goes back behind the plate for his remaining 2 years with the Birds. He's a career 117 OPS+ hitter, which he is also doing @ 1B. That makes him 14th in baseball among 1Bmen and it would make him 11th among C. They signed him to be a 117 OPS+ C, paid him to be a 117 OPS+ C, return him to the position. Playing Pages w/ his 50 OPS+ is asinine, I don't care how much Gray loves pitching to him. Then I want the DeWallets to sign Alonso in the off season this year.
