1The Mariners need a 5th starter, cause Emerson Hancock sure as hell isn't it. The Rays have a healthy 2 win SP with 3.5 years of team control left that they won't need for the rest of this awful season. Yandy has a year and a half of team control left for a very team friendly salary, and immediately becomes the 2nd best hitters on the Mariners. All the Rays ask in return is that near-ace with an elbow injury, and one of the 3 best catching prospects in the game. Mariners get better for a shot at the post season, rather than pissing away every 5th game throwing below replacement level pitchers out there. They get a bat that would cost them $25M per season on the FA market. The Rays get to rehab a pitcher and hope to return him to former glory, and hope to have a franchise catcher for the first time in their history.
