1trades like this make zero sense. The surplus value looks at AFV or adjusted field value less salary. If you are a team that needs to dump salary then it would begin to make more sense but that is not the case with the Braves. They have just spent the year forcing themselves under the luxury tax so they will reset their penalty if they go over in 2026. According to COTS payroll analysis, their current projected CBT is $54 million below next year's cap (if they exercise all their player options). So, they are not trading a player with an AFV of 118 for a relief pitcher with a AFV of 3.5. I am sure Boston would love this deal, but not in our lifetime would AA pull the trigger on this deal.
