6I would do cartwheels if the Rays did something like this.
I'd love to get Briceno even if he'd probably be a DH in TB he has a legit bat, I like Melton but I'm not big on Yost only cause we have sooo many of him already in the system, what would you think of trying to get someone like Jung or Malloy instead? Neither seem like they'll set mlb on fire but I don't see Yost setting himself apart from all the other glove first options they already have. With Clark coming soon and they're already stacked in the OF they're going to have to move some of them soon too.
I think Baz is terrible. Hasn't fooled anyone since A ball. I said preseason he was a middle reliever. I was wrong though, because with a 1.33 WHIP, a 4.4 FIP and a 5 ERA, he isn't anywhere close to being good enough to be a middle reliever. Fairbanks might have his option declined. I'm happy to get the highest offer for either of them. I don't expect 1/3 of this, and think it's hilarious Baz has 3 times Rasmussen's value here.
Come on Shaq. Baz was elite in the minors. One of the best pitchers the Rays have ever had in the minors. He even looked good in a few outings in the Majors before he blew out his elbow, but of course he hasn’t looked the same since (though he has shown flashes). If he was asked to pitch 1 inning in relief, I suspect he would be very good, maybe elite, but I don’t think that will be necessary. No pitcher suffered more than Baz pitching at Steinbrenner (or got screwed by Uceta/Kelly allowing so many inherited runners to score). Baz will be fine next year is my bet. As for the return, I don’t think the Rays will have any interest in Briceno unless he’s a lot better behind the plate than reports say he is. Yost does nothing for me.
I 100% said that preseason. I'll find it. I thought he was a middle reliever preseason, because his fastball isn't good enough to pitch off of it. He has a flat fastball, only his offspeed gets out. He's a junkballer who throws 97 MPH. His season totals: 4 seam Fastball: .344 wOBA, .346 xwOBA. Brandon Lowe's xwOBA is .347, so essentially every time he throws a 4 seam fastball, the batter becomes Brandon Lowe. His other fastball, his cut-fastball (cutter) has a .410 wOBA and a .338 xwOBA. His fastballs get fucking crushed. His slider was so awful, he gave up on it, going from throwing it 20% of the time in 2024 to 3% in 2025. The data matches what I saw last year and in spring training. He's not a good pitcher
And with trackman pitch challenges coming, framing doesn't matter to me anymore. If you have a 105 wRC+ and can squat behind home plate without shitting yourself, you are my new starting catcher. Briceno is probably an above average bat that can catch. Easy yes from me.
