1Kudos for thinking outside the box. Rays swap similar salaries in Diaz and Walker, taking all the risk that Walker is done while the Astros add a player in Yandy who plays as well as P.Alonso and B.Harper for 1/2 to 1/3 the cost. In return the Rays add a legit catching prospect and a young outfield phenom. They also send change of scenery candidate Lowe to Houston. I like J.Lowe and think his performance the past two years must have been more affected by injuries than we realize (multiple oblique injuries), but even still, I’d do this trade if I were the Rays. They should be focused on 2028, when the lockout ends. The only problem is that Houston is trading some serious high end quality prospects here and I’m not sure that’s something they will want to do.
