Because they need a RHH offense and have SP depth.
Is O'Neill actually RHH offense? He's due 16.5 million each of the next two seasons. He has had two seasons above 100 OPS+, is often hurt, hasn't been a positive defensive OF since 2021... Also they don't have true depth... Ortiz is likely banned, which makes them only 9 deep in SPs plus Allen is as durable as they come...
