5Lawlar might not have a ton of value anymore, but I think he'll project to a roughly league average player. Whatever it ends up being ($15M or so in my eyes), he's certainly not worth 0. The Rays would love to get this kind of return for Baz and Fairbanks. The DBs probably do it as well with how much pitching they need to acquire.
I like Lawlar for the Rays. Best case scenario, he realizes his potential. Worst case, he becomes the Rays new super utility infielder in place of Walls. I don’t like Waldschmidt though. Weak arm and bad fielder. His bat would have to be incredibly special to offset his defensive limitations. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but he has no floor if it isn’t. I don’t like those kind of prospects.
I think our evaluation of Shane Baz differs so greatly, that it would be impossible for us to both like a trade involving him. I would really like to get Lawlar, as Tristan Gray will probably start as our backup SS, and could potentially take over for Walls if he hits well enough. I think Tanner Murray's still a fit and gets protected in the rule 5 draft. His batted ball profile is just as good as Carson Williams's. He doesn't have that glove or speed, but he can hit velocity, but struggles with breaking stuff. Struggles is understatement. But I'm not in love with our future shortstop situation. Carson Williams isn't close to ready with the bat.
One of these is Tanner Murray. The other is Carson Williams. https://i.ibb.co/SwrpnCxc/Screenshot-20251106-150812.png ------- https://i.ibb.co/PG6PwCCf/Screenshot-20251106-150751.png
I don’t like Gray at SS at all and I don’t think Murray is a future MLer.
