7Rays get prospects to put them in a better position in the next couple of years. Cassie or Alcantra or both can be all star caliber players in the future, cubs just have too many outfielders. Rays also get Shaw which is a downgrade of a bat but has potential of elite defense and can hit for average in the future. Cubs get Junior point blank
No offense to the Cubs Farm system, but the Cubs don’t have the elite level prospects it would take to land JC (if the Rays were interested in trading him, which they most definitely aren’t).
Almost all are top 100 prospects and the cubs farm system last year was top 10 in baseball… buddy any trade with the Rays can happen lol open your eyes the Rays are the farm system for the mlb.. yall don’t hold onto anyone
JC has like 5 yrs of control left making just above league minimum, if he was down to 2 yrs then he probably would get moved, also I like the Cubs prospect but the problem is some of them have already been exposed somewhat like Cassie, Shaw, and Alcantara, Rojas is very overhyped and Triantos doesn't excite anyone, if you're new ownership and you're going to the fanbase and telling them you traded a 21 yo hitter that just hit like 45 HRS and plays 3B pretty well and on paper looks like a decent deal but not by the eye test then all the good will earned by buying the team is out the window and you're public enemy number one, also I wouldn't be shocked if they signed JC to a Franco type deal.
Plus top 100 doesn't really mean anything, look at all TB's top 100 prospects just a year ago, every year the top 100 success rate is like 25% of them even making to mlb, it's more of a popularity contest they pump out to fans
I should have read your replies before posting. GMTA.
There is a huge difference between an elite prospect and a top 100 prospect. Caissie has a ton of swing and miss in his game. I have no interest in seeing the Rays add him at his current inflated value. Alcantara is a fine defense first outfielder (ie: 1-2 WAR player) but the Rays already have a ton of those types. He adds nothing to the system in my opinion. Triantos sucks as a no power poor fielding infielder. No interest whatsoever. Shaw and Rojas are good prospects/players but both are overvalued and don’t scratch elite level prospect in my opinion. So while the Rays may always be open for business, they are not trading a star player with 5 years of control unless the package back includes several potential star players
