This seems like a perfect trade for both teams. Rays need a big bat outfielder (preferably RHB) and the Angles needs several SP. Seymour looked legit last year in his initial exposure to ML bats. Rays may regret trading him but they have 8 men available for the rotation next year with another 5 members of their top 30 prospects joining AAA next year. Rays need to start thinning the herd some.

I like it. It's definitely an area of need, but it feels like shuffling chairs to me. The Rays might get 5 WAR out of their entire rotation, have a SS who is the worst bat in the league, 10 OF who will combine to produce 3 WAR, and a bottom 5 farm system. If our goal is to improve the MLB roster, I either want a massive splash, or to start buying low on bounce back candidates. This team fell apart in the 2nd half of 2023, shat the bed in 2024, and fell apart in the 2nd half of 2025. I don't think a short term veteran at market value would be who I spent $ on, but I'd be okay with this as a step one, if step 2,3,4, and 5 also improved the MLB squad.

If you're wanting bounce back candidates then you're in luck cause for some reason Morel is still on the roster, lol I'm okay with this trade cause I don't see Seymour as a mlb starter, he's more a Yarborough type wingman to me but I really wish they'd target good long term pieces to go along with the next pitching wave coming, judging by the few moves so far and what the FO keeps saying I'm not expecting many moves and definitely not good ones that make sense, but I could be wrong and Fraley was the missing piece all along...

Fraley ain’t the missing piece. I have no idea why they brought a $3 million average fielding (at best) lefty bat onto the team. Is Fraley the #4, #5 or #6 lefty outfielder?

Going into the season last year, I would have agreed with you guys that Ian Seymour was nothing more than a Yarbrough type. But a 26% K percentage definitely changed my mind. That's 2% better than Shane Boz. 2% better than Pete Fairbanks. He's got deception that causes swing and miss. Morel can fuck off. I want nothing to do with him ever again. But the way things have gone, we're going to cut Josh Lowe and Chris Morel and see them get downballot MVP votes. I think we've got some serious issues in our management. Either our player development is horrific, or the people evaluating are horrific. When there's consistent bullshit trades that we shouldn't make, the right hand's not talking to the left. I think there's just been too much brain drain, and we're left with the scrubs that nobody wants.

I think its too much smartest kid in the room syndrome and instead of realizing their ideas aren't working and they should be backtracking instead they've decided to double down and keep digging the whole deeper, they really need a firesale on the roster and the FO cause this isn't 2011 anymore and their approach is outdated, 2026 is a lost season I'd much rather use it rebuilding then them shoveling the same "we're competitive" bs, if it wasn't for covid's shortened season we haven't really been a threat in years.

I’m still holding out hope that Stu meddled more than he ever did before in the years 2024 (to generate goodwill for the new stadium) and 2025 (his last year as owner). There’s no excuse for the Paredes trade though.

The Rays don’t tank, so we should expect the Rays to bring in some veteran help this offseason, and Ward is a dependable/consistent big bat (basically, an Aroz type outfielder). An outfield of Ward, DeLuca, Mangum, Simpson and either Lowe or Palacios should be pretty good if folks stay healthy and take the next step. I’m also a believer that the Rays rotation is going to have too many options next year and needs some thinning out. Seymour had a great call up year but I would rank him toward the back of available 2027 options.

Man, I hate to be the negative Nancy, but you know my thoughts on Hsane Baz. Electric fastball, hasn't fooled anyone with a breaking pitch since AA. The sooner he gets moved to the bullpen the better. McClanahan...who knows. I'm rooting for him. Griffin Jax might make a great starter, but he was a really shitty reliever once he put on the sunburst hat. Our rotation next year might be Drew Rasmussen and "man, fuck, I hate watching this team". For me, there's better ways to add 16 million to this roster than by claiming Fraley and trading for Ward, but admittedly, I'm not exactly sure what it is right now. I am just not enthusiastic at all about 2026. With the exception of McClanahan, everybody was healthy and we still ended up picking what, 8th?

On the rotation, I see it like this: 1. Ras - Has always been good when healthy. No worries. 2. McClanny - I have no idea but he’s definitely making the team if healthy. 3. Pepiot - Solid mid-rotation arm who will do better in the Trop. 4. Baz - Dude was actually very good last year away from Steinbrenner. He could be TOR next year. Yeah, you heard me! 5. Boyle - I’m still holding out hope he improves his control, but gun to head I’m expecting a move to the Pen. 6. Whitley - Pitched like the former top prospect he was at the end of the season. I’m cautiously optimistic he can be a SP next year. 7. Seymour - He’s a better overall pitcher than any of his individual pitch tools would suggest. I feel very comfortable with him in the #5 spot. 8. Jax - If he wants to move to the rotation and the Rays think he can maintain his stuff over 5-6 IP, then I’m in favor of it. There’s a good to great rotation in that mix.
