7Chris Murphy+Brennan Bernandino+Luis Guerrero traded all in hours+John Winckowski+Nathaniel Lowe DFAed too. RS whiplash.
We don’t need no stinking LH RP ………🤦🏻♀️
Bernardino is going to be 34 years old. Murphy is a bit confusing. Guerrero's development is going to be interesting. Why protect 27 year old Uberstine? Dajuba, my old friend, trade Duran or Abreu next? I like Okamoto at first-baseman. First-baseman defense needs to improve. Your thoughts and wisdom?
💁🏼♀️ I think Casas needs to earn and win the job during spring training, if he’s not completely healthy and unable to compete I’d keep him on the IL to open the season and when healthy ship him to AAA to earn the promotion. I think a 1B is a need for the ‘26 season but probably the one that will take the longest to fill because I think they really want to give Casas every chance to earn the job in the spring. I do not think they will shop him, I think they will politely listen to offers but in the end hold on to him. 💁🏼♀️ The Red Sox do not have a surplus of Outfielders to trade for pitching. A Major league roster of 26 carries 4 Outfielders; Duran, Rafaela, Anthony, Abreu. These 4 rotate through the outfield and DH. Campbell & Garcia are 40 man roster depth, they both need more seasoning in AAA which is perfect for the position the team is currently in and for all involved, in fact it’s practically ideal. I don’t believe the Red Sox will be or should be trading from this group of 6. Yoshida is a LH bat off the bench, albeit an expensive one. The Red Sox have traded Devers, Bregman looks to be gone, Casas is still working his way back. Sure Anthony will be back and healthy but he’s still a rookie. Trading an Outfielder for pitching would probably be devastating to the line up. At the - very very barely minimum - the Red Sox need a 1B (even if he’s only a 1yr rental), also a Catcher with at least 1 option year remaining to compete with Wong who still has an option (loser goes to AAA), and to sign free agent SP Dylan Cease, this is where they need set the market, spend the money and get the job done. Getting Bregman signed might end up being to expensive for the team who I believe are once again just paying lip service to the media about their true intentions. I think they’ll sign Bregman if it’s 4/$125, I don’t think they’ll go more. Same for Alonso, if it’s 3yrs $75 I think they will be agreeable, I don’t think they’ll go more. When it’s all said and done I think Breslow will get Cease & Bregman signed, Mayer opens the season at 2B. 1B is the real dilemma. Breslow has work to do but it’s actually not that bad, especially if they keep their Major league depth, specifically their Pitching and Outfielders. Oh, and after today I’m sure they’ll be on the hunt for LH RP’s. 🤔 Your turn…
Awesome reply! I disagree with your outfielder assessment. Romy can play in outfielder too. Bergman isn't worth an expensive 5 year contract. Some form of trade is going to be necessary because they have too many needs for free agents. Your opinion of Kazuma Okamoto?
“ they have too many needs” - No they don’t, that’s my point, the needs are few, but the quality needs to be at the highest level. And as far as Kazuma Okamoto goes, I’m not a fan of any of the bats that have come from that market in the past (couple of exceptions obviously) but as a whole I think it’s been weak. I’d really rather have an experienced MLB player at 1B.
Another off season of lip service from the powers that be in the Red Sox front office. They won’t sign any of the free agent starting pitchers that have the qualifying offer attached, they won’t $pend at the top of the market for the bat(s) that they so desperately need, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to watch them throw away more $$$ on posting fees for a player. There will be at least 1 more year of lip service like this again during the ‘26 ‘27 off season. The Red Sox true colors are shining brightly, you just need to put your shades on to tone it down so that you can really see what is happening inside Fenway and with those who occupy the seats around the decision making table.
