It goes like this... Cleveland moving Allen for a RH bat with team control makes sense... Problem is Mayo plays 1B/3B... Cleveland has no ABs available at those positions, so getting Mayo doesn't make sense...

twdelaney3

Hard disagree. 3B speaks for itself. But there’s ABs at 1B. Fry is 1B/3B/C/cOF. They need good hitters. ABs will be found, the key spots at RF (assuming CDL in CF), 2B/SS and 1B.

Cleveland's 1B depth chart... Manzardo, Kayfus, Fry, Noel, Brito... I guess you aren't including Kayfus at 1B?

twdelaney3

I do think of Kayfus as more cOF. Valera/CDL have injury ?s so CJ a nice security blanket. I wouldn’t mind seeing Brito work out in RF too. High hopes for his bat. I don’t think Noel should be an impediment to adding someone. Fry is a corner utility/C super sub.

I am not saying I dont mind Mayo, but Cleveland needs bats in positions that aren't producing... Mayo is a 1B and one that didn't even play good defense in 25... We cannot just have multiple guys playing 1B that cannot even field the position properly. Plus Mayo's numbers weren't overall that good... I feel like we already have production at 1B and Cleveland has another 1B type that could make their debut in 27... If I am moving Allen, I am moving it for someone who plays a position we don't have production is not one that we will have production in. Plus Mayo and Manzardo, gives our roster less flexibility.

I think your point on positional versatility is well made and accurate. Likely why any deal wouldn’t work. They love guys who can move all over (see comments about Fry above, but angel, Schnee, Arias) and Manzo/Mayo would defy that norm. Appreciate your thoughtfulness as always. Happy holidays.

Kayfus is a GG caliber 1B and likey to be our starting 1B for years to come. Sure, they'll work Manzardo in there occasionally but he shouldn't be there frequently. Please God don't let him be there frequently because he's terrible defensively speaking. The only way I can see Mayo being a fit is if Kwan is traded and Vogt is willing to accept the lesser defense at 1B. Cleveland's OF would then consist of Valera in LF, DeLauter in CF, Kayfus in RF and a 1B/DH platoon between Manzardo and Mayo.
