3Mets are said to want Marte and the D-Backs are said to want pitching for Marte. So this trade has the Mets trading J.Williams (who wouldn’t be needed with Marte on the team), C.Benge and J.Tong in return for Marte. Williams and Benge go to TBR, who send Pepiot (solid mid-rotation arm with 3 years of control remaining) and Jax (closer who wants to be a SP) to the D-Backs. Mets also send high upside SP Tong to the D-Backs. If the D-Backs want starting pitching for Marte, it’s hard to beat this package (3 good SP making less than $8MM collectively). Mets should be thrilled as they get Marte without sacrificing McLean and Sproat. Rays should be thrilled as they add to their growing elite Farm.
I like this proposal for all three teams.
Thanks. It does seem to fit for everyone. Mets fans may want Marte for only their leftover prospect scraps (e.g. Vientos, Mauricio, etc) and Rays typically demand more players in return than they trade away, so it’s not perfect (but what trade ever is). For what it’s worth, Rays need high quality position player prospects who are nearly ready for the Show too, so it works from that perspective. Mets aren’t turning their leftover scraps into anyone of significance though. They’ll have to accept that.
