6I'm not sure which direction the Rays FO is going for this year, so this trade is only if they are re-tooling before the inevitable lock out next year. The Reds have a lot of K's in their starting lineup, so Diaz definitely helps that problem and they get a power arm for the pen.
This trade seems like more of the same for the Rays. A no bat SS, a far off outfielder, and a reliever with potential. That makes this trade a possibility for the Rays but not one I think makes the Rays all that much better.
This proposal does not make the Reds all that much better either. You have not reviewed the Reds roster. 1.) They have 1B and DH covered. 2.) Sal Stewart had the plate awareness that Diaz might bring at a much lower cost.
Sal Stewart has a month in the Majors. Diaz is a been there done that bonifide big bat. There’s nothing wrong with going with the young guy but you make it sound like Diaz is trying to prove himself while Stewart is the proven player. You’ve got it completely wrong. The Reds could find they don’t have 1B/DH covered in 2026 any better than they did in 2025.
Oh cry me a river Mr. Sensitive. If Stewart was a Ray you would be praising his plate awareness and power potential that would allow moving Diaz. Every time someone does not agree with your Tampa Bay Ray assessments or proposals that involve moving some player(s) from your discard pile you and or your wingman Mr. Oatmeal have a melt down. How in the world did I make it sound like Diaz is trying to prove himself? This proposal gives the Reds 4 years of geriatric players; the Rays 24 years of young prospects. If Diaz is still a bonafide big bat why would you be willing to move him? Same goes for Josh Lowe.
You’re missing my point. As I said, it’s fine to go with the younger, unproven player, but you need to be honest with yourself about what you’re doing. Stewart looks like a great young player and I get why you like him, but he hasn’t proved himself in the Majors. Diaz has. Reds are taking a chance going with the rookie over the sure thing. Small market teams have to do that though……….. As for why I’d be willing to move Diaz, it’s solely because I think the Rays are in the midst of a rebuild and staring down a 70 win season in 2026. On the other hand, the Reds should be trying to improve and win the division.
