Cleveland isn't willing to put this much into Marte with that contract that he has... Cecconi is definitely not available...

DO you think any of their SP depth is moveable? They have the big 6 and some additional depth, with more on the way. Hard to see how they trade for a bat without giving up one

Look at the SP group... Bibee, Williams, Cecconi, Cantillo, Allen and Messick... All are young with legitimate times of good MLB innings... Of that group only Allen could be available... Now, we need to look at the group after that... on the 40 man roster they have Peterson and Nikhazy... Peterson is a workhorse with average stuff and plus command... Nikhazy had an elbow injury... Then we have a bunch of guys from the 21 draft, who have made it through 2 Rule 5 drafts... They are AAAA types... Then they have Stephen starting at AA... No other starters in their top 30 prospects... Espino likely won't be in the rotation in 2026 since he will be limited to 60 innings or so... Tell me the depth you speak of... If any of the SPs are available it is Allen... Plus Cleveland cannot afford to take on Marte's contract getting 20+ million in the mid 30s...

I think they CAN afford to take on Marte's contract, but you're right that that probably won't. The lack of urgency to spend to get Jose some help is baffling. My perspective is they can take on Marte now and the contract is not so bad as to make it immovable in a few years. I also wonder if the BTV has inflated cost for Marte; I think AZ wants to move him before 10/5 kicks in, that could lower the price. Re: SP - I think the delineation of Allen/Cecconi is negligible. If you're willing to move Allen, I don't see why you wouldn't be willing to move Slade. Agreed on the 2021 guys, but Stephen and Hartle could be 2026 options and I would not be surprised to see Avila stretched out. Tugboat can be a 5, same with Peterson and Nikhazy (what pitcher hasnt had an elbow injury?). Gomez is almost assuredly a RP but maybe SP depth. I'd still like to see Allard back too.

Slade Cecconi has five years of control left (Allen has four) plus he has better stuff than Allen does... Allen's strength is the fact he is workhorse, but he only has average stuff outside of what his sweeper... When it comes to Marte's contract... He is due 20+ incentives in his age 34 season... 22+ incentives in both his age 35 and 36 seasons plus a 11.5 million player option in his age 37... The other issue is the fact he plays 2B only anymore... That is just a contract a small market like Cleveland cannot gamble on... Cleveland also isn't going to block Bazzana and it sounds like they aren't going to move Bazzana off of 2B... Also people are forgetting with the fact more teams can make the playoffs now, so guys from borderline teams that would have been available a few years ago, may not be now so the prices of players in both trade and FA have gone up. Plus who is in free agency that makes any sense for a small market? I did forget Hartle got himself to AA, but I feel like he is more of a 27 debut than possible late 26 like Stephen could pull off...

Cecconi's savant page and underlying metrics are rough. But fine, sub out Slade and add Allen and I still do the deal. I am not worried about "blocking" Bazz. Heaven forbid they have TOO many good hitters. They had 2 players above 100 wrc+ last year. Zips projects 5 players above league avg as hitters. Three (Kwan, Kayfus and JRod) are barely over that mark. We have 3 years left of a generational player, they need to maximize that window. Marte does that. I'd love all the prospects to work, but can't bank on that nor health. For comparison, Alonso (1 yr younger than Marte) just got $31M/yr through 2030 (age 35) same timeline as Marte; Marte is as good or better of a hitter and has room on the defensive spectrum. The contract is manageable/movable if needed.

They stated they won't block 2B... Marte is a 2B... his contract won't be movable in a few seasons... Cleveland is willing to trade for Marte, but only in the 30-40 range even if DBacks add some cash... His contract will be a liability in a couple seasons...
