14I think Petty's value here is a little low. Cleveland swaps Kwan in LF for Steer's RH power and adds Petty to the rotation.
My understanding is Guardians needs are much like the Reds, they need hitting. If true does not make much sense from the Guardians side.
The Guardians are going to deal Kwan because they are not extending him. They also need RH pop and Steer provides that. They add Petty who has nasty stuff and is ready to join a ML rotation. He has the upside of a #2.
Ahh I did not know that about Kwan. So it looks like Reds will have him for two years unless they can extend him which I seriously doubt it. At any rate I think then I make this trade.
BigBat has been trying to trade Kwan for years... Kwan is not available except at a very high price and this price point isn't going to get Kwan from the Guardians... Now the style of return makes 100% sense... MLB ready RH bat, near/MLB ready SP prospect plus another solid prospect...
This is pure bs on your part. My desire to trade Kwan only surfaced when it was clear that he would not be extended. Nobody values Kwan as high as you do. Not even the Guardians which is why he has not been extended.
Kwan wasn't extended because he is betting on himself for a bigger payday... Also since Kwan hasn't been traded yet, it is because of the notoriously hard to trade with Cleveland FO refuses to lower the price they feel he is worth... You have his value way too low cause you cannot stand player who don't hit for power...
Pure speculation on your part. I suspect that he hasn’t been extended because the Guardians don’t like all the factors such as age, performance and others. He’s not going to get a deal with and average annual of $20M from anybody and Cleveland can afford to sign him for that. You have his value over exaggerated.
Cleveland isn't trading him for 20 something value... They would rather keep him at that price point...
It is possible that both Steer and Petty are presently undervalued. Why would Cincy move 15 years of eligibility for 2?
That’s why I said “if”. A LFer with little power isn’t the most desirable player if we’re being honest. What does make Kwan desirable is the GG defense and being one of the best leadoff hitters in MLB.
This concept i like way better than your other trades but Speer barely played in the OF last season and has negative marks there, plus his OPS+ for the last couple seasons has only been in the 90s... His bat also doesn't play well HR wise in the AL Central... Petty had a couple MLB starts, so he may not make the rotation, but throws mid 90s, though his AA and AAA numbers are not good and he is smaller for an SP, he has a ton of reliever risk still... Watson put into the Guardians pitching factory, that is a smart move... Overall, heavy risk on the Cleveland side since Petty needs work and Steer hasn't been able to repeat his 2023 season...
When will you learn that defensive metrics have little to no value, especially in small samples which is less than 5 yrs. Steer plays a good defensive LF and that has never really been a question. You should remove your face from the stat books and watch these players from time to time. In 3yrs his average OPS+ is right at 100 and I would expect a little more than that going forward. We don't need to mention his ability to steal bases and play good defense at 1B/3B. If anyone says no to this deal it's the Reds, but if they happen to value Kwan this much then Cleveland should make the deal. Petty is going to be a stud and as soon as 2026. He certainly would improve Cleveland's rotation for years to come.
He has had less than 100 OPS for the last two seasons in a home park that is favorable to RH bats like him...
