I suppose this could work for the Rays. I know the system says it is an overpay to Tampa, but Barger wouldn’t be playing 3B for the Rays, where he was pretty good in the field. Instead, he would have to get reacquainted with SS, which he might not be able to play well at the ML level, or play COF, where he’s a net negative. I don’t like this trade that much if Barger plays LF for the Rays. Simpson is just scratching the service of his potential and could be really good. So I’ll give it a thumbs up today but I don’t love the trade without knowing how Barger will be used.
