9I am not against getting Martin, but the dude does not hit HRs... He doesn't add much outside of hitting RH and can play CF... Cleveland isn't moving Ingle for him that's for sure...
For crying out loud. You're suggesting trading not only a better hitter(Ingle) for a lesser one(Martin), but one that is 3 yrs younger too. I don't care if Ingle makes it as a C or not. Cleveland can do better than this if they are going to include him in a deal.
Maybe they can do better. But an above average RHH who can play all 3 OF spots has a lot of value. Especially for this team. Maybe ingle works but if it’s LF the bat needs to carry more and the power/defense tradeoff you’re making with Kwan is different.
Martin had a 113 wRc+ last year, hits RH and can play all 3 OF positions. That would be incredibly welcomed in CLE. Sure he doesn’t hit HRs, but neither does Ingle and a no HR cOF/2B is less valuable, especially to this team.
Cooper Ingle has two traits that set him apart, elite bat control and batters eye (Aka two traits Kwan has)... The only reason why Ingle is not a top 50 prospect is the fact he has a weak throwing arm... Ingle as a batter is as low risk as a position prospect can be... Martin has 53 doubles and 16 HRs in 1100ish minor league ABs... Ingle has 65 doubles and 21 HRs in 800Ish ABs... Cleveland would take Martin, but just not for Ingle who is an overall better hitter... Do not be surprised if Ingle replaces Kwan in LF if Ingle is not catching. He is not a guy the Cleveland brass will trade unless it's a proven All-star with control back in the deal.
Unless there is a major step forward in defense this year, Ingle isn't a catcher. That's why he isn't a top 50 prospect. The bat is serviceable in the OF but it's not elite. Look at Martin's savant page elite Chase %, Whiff %, K%, BB%...all from the right side. Can also play CF, which Ingle cannot. But you're right, CLE won't trade him because they don't trade any prospects until all value is gone. It's easy to take the contrarian side.
The thing is Ingle, as a batter, is just as elite in those categories and he has more SLG% than Martin... Comparing minors numbers Ingle actually has a higher contact rate with a lower swing rate... Ingle has a 16%ish BB rate and SO rate in the minors with more walks than SOs... Ingle is the better hitter in the end of the two on paper... Martin is turning 27... Ingle is turning 24 and his ETA is second half of 26... Martin is a guy Cleveland would pick up, just not for Ingle who may be on their "almost untouchable list"
I hope your Ingle zealousness is accurate cause they need as many bats as possible, wherever. Would love to see a trade you think they'd actually make that fits this systems parameters.
I don't see a good fit trade wise between the Twins and the Guardians... I made one for funsies, but I wasn't seeing one that would make sense for in division rivals...
