12Just got bored and posted something way out there... Reds get Ryan... Cleveland trades Velazquez for a MLB guy and depth while the Twins get long term potential...
No chance CLE moves Ralphy for that package. One of the few power bats in the system and maybe the only one with the hit tool to get to it. I like Martin and Petty, but too many ?s to move Ralphy
Ralphy plays 1B/LF... We have plenty on the roster who can play those positions... I get what you are saying though, but overall this could help the Guardians more than a single bat could.
In a world where Ingle's bat is "too valuable even if he's in LF", you can't credibly claim Ralphy's bat is less important. Ralphy only moves as part of a Ketel package
Ingle has elite bat control and batters eye... Do not get me wrong, Ralphy is one I like, but he doesn't have that skill... Now, this deal depends on Petty and Arroyo... If they feel like Petty can be a MOR and Arroyo a starter, you take this deal, if not you don't... I just don't know how they have them evaluated internally...
Ralphy is less available than Ingle. Period. Full stop. Even if you dont think he can play LF. His bat is one you prefer to keep around. Def do not move for a MOR which you've shown you can develop internally with much success
Tell me what we have pitching wise... Our AAA crew can all file for free agency after this season... We have Stephen and Hartle... Who else in the minors for near ready SP? Peterson and Nikhazy... We need more MLB ready SP depth... 1B we have Manzardo, Kayfus, Brito, Fry... They all have team control for awhile... This deal gives us a legit MIF prospect, which we are not deep in either... This gives us all the depth we need right now... If you don't like the deal that's fair, I don't blame you... I am not saying you have to like it, but if we can fill in three needs for one prospect, you normally take it.
I agree SP depth is an issue. Khal, Hartle, Gomez...it's not great. But you you don't move a middle order of the bat unless it's a proven commodity.
So essentially this would be how they rank Petty, Arroyo in the future... If they like both, you do the deal if not you say no... Id be more worried about the Twins when those guys would be 100% MLB ready....
Power and SP are the most expensive things to acquire. One theyve shown they can develop, another they haven’t. Can’t move a potential power bat.
I am going to reply up here, I am not as worried about losing Velazquez mostly because of the last draft... They drafted two plus hitters in Nelson and Martinez that play 1B... 3B is taken so Curley may not stay at his projected 3B and Hill is likely 2B... Schubart is projected to move to 1B... I am not saying we have to trade Velazquez, but he is going to be available because of who we have on the MLB roster and who we just drafted... 1B is also a position that doesn't have as much value as others in a way... I actually feel like this move makes them better because Arroyo is a switch hitter who is supposed to be able fo field well and has plus contact skills... Martin takes walks and serves the 4th OF and Petty fills in the rotation depth that they need this season, but gives time for Cleveland to improve Petty with his 96 on average fastball... Though I feel like this trade would be a 3 WAR player traded for three 1 WAR player types in a sense from Cleveland's point of view... You would rather keep the 3 WAR guy and I would rather fill in the roster since Martin is a need, Arroyo will get to AAA and has an ETA of 27 in the middle INF, and Petty has some reliever risk but there is enough there that a season or two in Cleveland's farm, could be a solid pick up...
All those college picks are a year older than Ralphy and he has done it at AA. Maybe they pass him this year, and Schubart has HUGE swing concerns. Arroyo isn't the prospect Genao is...I like the pieces you're adding and they make sense, but not at the expense of Ralphy. FG has him as the second best hitting prospect in the system behind CDL. I get the quantity over single player perspective and do like all three guys you're adding and they are needs, but would prefer a way without Ralphy
